Kickpleat's banana bread

Via Orangette. At the time of writing my head has expanded to twice its normal size, but suffice it to say this banana bread is five different kinds of fuck off rad. I made this the same day as I made Clotilde's astonishing carrot and avocado salad. I took pictures of the salad, which means I could write up the recipe if I really wanted, but, as I said, my head is at least twice it's usual side and my mouth tastes like arse. The thing is the next day I came home from the library starving and sick of books, and there was a bowl of carrot and avocado salad in the fridge and this cake, and I ate it and I felt a rush of righteous maturity akin to flossing my teeth or getting a pap smear.

3 very ripe bananas
2 large eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups self raising flour
1 cup raw sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup dark chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 190 degrees.

Mash the bananas well in a medium bowl. Add the eggs and stir well to combine. Add the flour, sugars, connamon and vanilla. Add three quarters of the chocolate chips. Tip into an appropriately greased 20cm square pan.

In a small bowl mix together the remaining chocolate chips, 2 tbsp of an appropriately crunchy, goldy-coloured sugar of choice, with 1/4 tsp of cinnamon. Sprinkle over the batter in the pan.

Bake for 35-40 minutes until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool and eat. It's nice hot, as my housemates discovered when I forced warm, crumbly slabs of cake on them, but it is unbelievably good when it cools and the chocolate chips go all crunchy and awesome.

I don't like banada bread, but the following description makes me want it hard:

"this banana bread is five different kinds of fuck off rad"

And that carrot and avo salad looks great. I might make it this week.

Salamualaykum

I am totally smitten with this speech of Zarathustra.

Normally I tend to be regaled in my recipe collecting habits to the recipe threads of the larger Muslim internet forums (which are an excellent source, none better known by me in the internet, perhaps until this discovery of mine - not that usual users can share its discovery with me immediately since you had no need of discovering it within the same timeframe)

Umm, now where does that leave me?

Ah ha, I was going to inform you of my link surfing: leftwrites to pathofmostresistance to here.

I hope you can all tolerate this poetic-ish rendition of me trying to give my teenage son (who is smitten with playing magic the gathering role playing card games) a lesson about food, money, and magic, all at once:

The Potion

the Magic recipe
To learn if you are one who can summons me
Who I am being only the Angel of Money
Is to place
Australian gold in salt
Plenty of black pepper
Mountain pepper and myrtle to taste
Cinnamon as European
Decoration would upon
Rosemary and myrtle of another kind from
But just a touch mind
Of garlic to find
the combination to mix
With the juice and the skin of a lime
And have the oven hot mind
Before you add in ingredients of the dry kind
Flour of spelt mixed with buckwheat as well
Don't waste the lecithin
A smudge of sodium
Bi-carbonate
With wather might bind the balances mate
For you'll be in luck if the rise is great
And those few drops of oil required
Can be olive, fish, or Emu in kind
Depending upon how healthy your mind
Pocket and stomache might find
Most raw virgin oil fine
Which belong with the spice and the lime
Alike to the dressing for salad to face
Then when you find
The correct proportions
In time and space
Roll it out thin and bake
As many times as you like
To learn how to know
What the secret ingredient is
That cooks this dish
Sublime dietry stitch
Bake it tonight
For tomorrow will need
The mana alright

Thanks for reading it
